## Transcript

[ SOUND ]. My name is Brittney Duff, and I'm from Washington State. More specifically I'm from Bremerton, which is part of Kitsap County, which is also in the 35th legislative district, and I'm currently 22 years old. We are in line for the LGBT caucus. I am personally a bisexual woman, but this issue affect everybody. So you know we're in a long line. And it surprises me. I'm really impressed with this turnout. [ SOUND ] You know in my state, you know, statements about marriage equality get a standing ovation, but in some states you know they vote to extra ban gay marriage when it's already, you know, not legal.

And make our country the more perfect union we know it can be. And I believe under President Obama we are more perfect than we were four years ago. It's not just about marriage. It's just about seeing you know LGBT people as equals and this is the battleground that's you know showing people where our real intentions lie. I mean there's just so many issues this election. They've been making these bigger and bigger issues, you know, on the other side of the aisle. Especially with women's reproductive rights. And you know, funding for students. So they're really attacking those things that affect me personally.

My dad is actually, he was the primary bread winner. But now he is disabled. He's in his late forties. And he is on medicare and social security disability. We don't have a lot of money. And I work a minimum wage job, so I have to, was paying out of pocket when I was taking classes here and there. But I decided, you know that I really want to speed things up a bit, get my degree. I can't do all that out of pocket with tuition going up 40 % every year, so right now I'm on financial aid and I'm waiting for my Pell grant coming and you know Paul Ryan's new budget, he wants to cut Pell grants. I'm like that's the money that I'm going to be depending on.

I mean when you're going to university it's kind of just a drop in the bucket but for community college that's really all you need. You know, if I don't get that I don't get an education. If I don't get an education that's gonna, you know, hold me back for the rest of my life, and I won't be able to have you know, the kind life that everybody envisions when they're growing up.
