>> One year to the day he shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, Oscar Pistorius released a statement on his website. The South African double amputee track star is set to stand trial for murder early next month. The statement reads, " No words can adequately capture my feelings about the devastating accident that has caused such heartache for everyone who truly loved and continues to love Reeva. The pain and sadness consumes me with sorrow ." Pistorius has maintained a low profile in the media since the shooting, a stark contrast from being the darlings of their home country before Steenkamp's death.

>> It was a shooting that shocked South Africa. The country's Golden Boy Olympian had killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, an up and coming model.

>> Last August Pistorius openly cried in court while he was indicted on premeditated murder charges, charges Pistorius denies. Pistorius says he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder on Valentine's Day 2013 and feeling vulnerable without his prosthetic legs attached shot and killed her through the bathroom door. The summer before Steenkamp's death, Pistorius took home 3 medals, 2 of them gold in the Paralympic Games and he even competed in the London Olympics. Pistorius is nicknamed Blade Runner for the prosthetics he wears when he competes but the BBC now calls him a fallen hero. If convicted, Pistorius could face 25 years in prison.
