## Transcript

[ MUSIC ] It's hard enough to interview for a job when you're already working fulltime. When you're interested in a job that you already work at that company, you have to really tread carefully. You might be tempted not to tell your boss. But that can be a mistake. If it is an internal position, they're probably likely to hear about it and if they hear about it second hand from somewhere else, well that can hurt the trust that you have with your boss. So here's how to handle it. Go to your boss, remember you're not asking for permission on whether to interview or go for a new job After all, your boss if they're a good manager will want to see you meet your career goals.

And if they're not such a great boss, well, nobody expects you to stay in the job forever. Let your boss know why you're looking for a new job. Is it an opportunity to take on more responsibility or a promotion or just to learn a new skill Now, if you do think that your boss might undermine you, or not be your best supporter, you can wait til you're further along in the process to let them know. But, if you do get the job offer, leave things on a good note. Offer to help find your replacement and train them. Remember, if you're gonna be working at the same company, you're bound to see your boss again and probably even collaborate on future projects.

You definitely don't want to burn any bridges. [ MUSIC ]
