So much for the Lexus and Prius models outfitted with Google headgear. Google has upgraded to its own self- driving cars. I love this. [ LAUGH ]. Google's newest self- driving car comes complete with, well, nothing really. It doesn't have a steering wheel, brake pedals, accelerator or anything else a human may need to drive. In a blog post, the Director of Google's self driving car project wrote, On the inside, we've designed for learning, not luxury. So we're light on creature comforts. As for what it does have, there are two seats, a small cubby, a screen that shows the route, and two simple buttons, start and stop.

The company says, just think of the benefits, seniors who can keep their freedom, no drunk or distracted driving. But the number one question on everyone's mind is safety. Can a car with no driver be trusted on the open road? re / code caught up with the Chris Urmson to ask the crucial question. We know this is a new technology we're bringing into the world and we want to do it as safely as possible. We're going to do everything we can to design the software and hardware to never fail. The car has two motors, neither of which is controlled by the driver. It also features a compressible foam and a flexible windshield to lessen the impact if it does hit something.

And lastly the car is capped at a top speed of just 25 miles per hour. But we are visual creatures. So to help the public trust these new vehicles. The creators say they wanted to make it look as friendly as possible. It's deliberately cute looking. It's kinda interesting. It's also adorable. There it is. Oh wow. Isn't that cute? Chris Amson says, we definitely would like the vehicle to appear friendly. There's a lot of thought put into that shape and what kinda emotion it shows. Google says these vehicles have sensors that can detect any object out to a distant of 200 yards in every direction.

The tech giant also says that the plans to build 100 of these prototype vehicles and launch a pilot program in California. Thanks for watching, I am Jamal Andress.
