The smell of rubbish fills the air. Propaganda posters line the stairwells. And a box of Molotov cocktails is ready at the main entrance in case of attack. These are the new corridors of power in Ukraine's troubled Donyetz region. Hundreds of Pro Russian volunteers are working here at the headquarters of the self proclaimed People's Republic. And most are convinced they are fighting a facist and illegitimate regime. [ FOREIGN ] They're human like us, but they kill unarmed people, women and children. They burn them. It's as if they're not human. [ FOREIGN ] [ FOREIGN ] The government building was occupied in early April after protestors crashed three police lines. The referendum on self rule which Kiev called an illegitimate farce has filled people with pride. [ FOREIGN ] We're not paid. We're here because we ought to be here. This is our civic duty. The media office has accredited maybe 650 foreign journalists. While the Russian press get preferential treatment. Prokiev [ INAUDIBLE ]. Truth here is a matter of perspective. Everyone has their own truth. One person can see from one perspective, and another can see it from another perspective. But I can say that I'm on the side of the truth. I can say that for sure. Although each person understands the truth in their own way. Although Donyet city itself is relatively calm. Around the region, dozens on either side have been killed in the fighting. The government insists it will try to proceed with presidential elections on May the 25th.
