## Transcript

Two pings heard about 1000 miles north of Perth, Australia, could be the clue that finally brings the month long search for Malaysia Airlines flight 370 to a close. Clearly, this is a most promising lead. And, probably in the search so far, it's the, it's probably the best information that we've had. Over the weekend, the Australian vessel picked up two signals, officials believe are consistent with an aircraft's black box recorders. The ship picked up the first signal for more than two hours before losing it, and the second for just 30 minutes. And while the signal is encouraging, officials are still cautiously optimistic.

All parties must be cautious about unconfirmed findings and making conclusions. More importantly, search officials are racing against the clock. The black box recorder, which officials hope is the source of the latest pings, has a battery life of just 30 days. Monday marks the thirty first day since Flight 370 disappeared. As an aviation safety expert explains to TIME, we're not talking about days now, we're really talking about hours left of the battery life. Unfortunately though even if these pings are coming from Flight 370, it could still take days to verify that fact and months to recover the wreckage.

[ SOUND ]. In very deep oceanic water, nothing happens fast. Thanks for watching. I'm Lauren Forrest.
