That's according to the Kaiser Family Foundation's annual report. The group found that out of pocket costs have steadily risen for workers as employers have more frequently turned to high deductible plans. On average, people now pay $ 1, 318 dollars before insurance coverage kicks in. That number was $ 584 a decade ago and wage increases aren't keeping up with the rise in health insurance costs. Since 2010 wages have increased by an average of 10 %, but deductibles have risen nearly seven times faster and monthly premiums Have gone up twice as fast. The logic behind high deductible plans is that it keeps premiums lower, while encouraging more careful healthcare spending from individuals.
