The job market is resurging and a lot of people are hopping over and getting new positions. In the world of social media, what are the dos and don'ts about notifying your friends, colleagues, and families about your new position? We've got Money writer, Megan Lenhart, here to tell us some of the mines we want to avoid. So. Right now, you change your status, if you do it too soon or too late you've squandered an opportunity. So, what is the best timing for this? So, the best timing is actually a multitude of announcements. Its kind of funny, we always think I want to set a new In a record with tweets when I sit there, and announce to the world that I'm changing jobs, but in reality it's almost a process.

You need to sit there, and take a step back, hopefully take a deep breath, and really time things appropriately. Because as you pointed out, it's not only a missed, it also could be damaging to your relationships, and to The way you're perceived if you do it too soon or too early. A lot of people are looking for jobs right now. How do they not tip their hat to their current employers? So it's about the old story about leaving your resume in the copier. I don't think people do that anymore, but there's some similarities on social media. If you're sitting there and you're doing a drastic makeover of your LinkedIn page or you're excluding things on other social media platforms, that can be a tip off.

Employers are watching employees' social media accounts, maybe more than we even think. And it's a good idea to just Do things gradually, maybe spend a little bit of time in increments doing these updates. But certainly be careful and be smart about this. The first step is to find out from your future employer when the institution, they are going to make an announcement, is that correct? That is. So essentially the way things usually work if all is well, you get a new job offer and then of course you'll need to give some notice. And hopefully it's a two- week process, so within that time period you do need to make some non- social media announcements to your manager, to your colleague, to anyone who would be offended if they found out on social media.

Day one, you start your new job. What do you do? Day one, morning of, walking to your new job, you can Tweet hey, starting at Money Magazine today, and really, really excited about it. And that's a good jumping- off point, that gives everyone the opportunity then, your new coworkers, your new boss, everything to say, we're so excited to have you, if it's a big social media environment. Megan [ UNKNOWN ] thank you so much. Thank you. And thanks for watching.
