I'll pick up then, with Mrs. King's letter to the Judiciary committee when the Judiciary committee was considering, not then Senator Sessions, nominee Sessions for a position on the federal bench. Fathers, sons, and brothers- Mr. President. They are- Mr. President. Majority leader. The Senator has impugned the motives and conduct of our colleague from Alabama, as warned by the Chair. Senator Warren quote said, Senator Sessions has used the awesome power of his office to chill the free exercise of the vote by black citizens. I call the Senator to order, under the provisions of rule 19. Mr. President?

[ INAUDIBLE ] Messages. [ INAUDIBLE ] Senator for messages. [ INAUDIBLE ] Mr. President, I am surprised that the words of Coretta Scott King are not suitable for debate in the United States Senate. I ask leave of the Senate to continue my remarks. Is there objection? Object. I appeal the ruling- Objection is heard. The Senator will take her seat. Mr. President, I appeal the ruling of the Chair, and I suggest the absence of a quorum. On this motion, the yeas are 43, the nays are 50, the motion is not agreed to. Tonight, I wanted to read that letter and Senator Mitch McConnell and the Republicans came to the floor to shut me down for reading that letter.

So, right now, what I'd like to do, I'm outside the Senate, I just want to read the letter. Mr. Sessions has used the awesome power of his office. To chill the free exercise of the vote by black citizens in the district, he now seeks to serve as a federal judge. This simply cannot be allowed to happen. Mr. Sessions conduct as a U. S. attorney, from his politically motivated voting fraud prosecution To his indifference toward criminal violations of civil rights laws indicates that he lacks the temperament, fairness, and judgement to be a federal judge.
