The recall now includes banana pudding, ice cream pints and any other product manufactured on the same production line. The banana pudding ice cream tested positive for Listeria, the same bacteria that forced Blue Bell Creameries to issue the initial recall. It came after five patients who were already being treated in a Kansas hospital were infected with Listeria. Three of them died shortly afterward. According to Blue Bell, there have been no illnesses confirmed to date, since those five people were infected. The initial recall came from a group of products made my one machine at the ice cream company's headquarters in [ UNKNOWN ], Texas. That machine has since been dismantled, and the involved products have been removed from stores and storage. But this latest recall at the Broken Arrow facility is a bit larger. To determine if a Blue Bell product came from the Oklahoma plant, consumers can check the back of the package and look for one of six identifying letters. O, P, Q, R, S, and T. This second recall comes less than a wee -. Week after Blue Bell Creamery suspended all operations at it's main factory plant in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Blue Bell claims it is closing the plant out of " an abundance of caution" and that it will be working with the FDA to make all the necessary improvements. Blue Bell Ice Cream isn't sold everywhere. The Texas based creamery's products are distributed in these 23 states across the country. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention cites Listeria as the third leading cause of death from food poisoning and says about 1600 people get sick from the bacteria strain every year. Of those 1600 people 90 % of them will be pregnant women, newborns, people who are 65 and older. And those with weakened immune systems.
