## Transcript

>> We decided to rank women 1 through 50 based on 4 criteria- the size and importance of the woman's business in the global economy, the health and direction of the business, the arc of the woman's career and a social and cultural influence. Indra Nooyi, the CEO of PepsiCo is number 1 on the list today. She, I think, epitomizes the quintessential Fortune 500 CEO who is global, who talks about performance with purpose.

>> It's basically PepsiCo saying that companies can no longer perform and toss cause to society. We believe that the new future's public- private partnerships.

>> This list has always been populated by a lot of women in both the consumer products industry which has always been a welcoming field for women and a lot of media women on the list. It's interesting to see the technology and media women come in to the forefront. Today, we have a couple of Google women on the list, Marissa Mayer, who is 35. She's the youngest woman to make the Most Powerful Women list; Susan Wojcicki, who is also at Google. Susan Wojcicki famously went to Susan's garage to 2 guys named Sergey Brin and Larry Page who started Google; Sheryl Sandberg who is in her early 40s, the COO of Facebook.

She's one of our fastest movers on the list just because Facebook has 500 million users now. Unlike some other women list, women in power list, ours is corporate women only, for profit businesses. Now, there are few exceptions. One of the exceptions is Oprah Winfrey who is number 6 on our list. Oprah is actually one of the few entrepreneurs we never had on the list but just look at the power of Oprah, the Oprah effect, the impact she has on culture and she is, you know, the most successful woman in television history, has brought a lot of revenues to a lot of companies including ABC, CBS and she's starting her own network on January 1st.

When we started this list, there was quite a bit of scepticism and even hostility among the women who were- who were at the top because these corporate women felt that, if you marginalize this, if you segregate us, that means we're not getting ahead. What we say is we will stop doing the list the day that there's equality at the top levels of the workplace.
