## Transcript

[ SOUND ] We're Givers, from Lafayette, Louisiana [ SOUND ]. And we love you. [ MUSIC ] Members of Louisiana's latest indie export Givers, are know for their tireless positivity as much as their catchy, African influenced guitar and complex percussion. [ MUSIC ] But don't let their uppy attitudes fool you. They've spent more than two years on the road thinking deeply about how they want to contribute artistically. And it shows on their first full length album, Enlight. [ INAUDIBLE ] the music that we play. Is, you know. I guess we'd considered it uplifting, you know? We'd feel like that's that's almost like a nutrient.

The world you could say is kind of like lacking in a lot of areas. A lot of bands that are very cool, you know. [ MUSIC ] We, we take pride in the fact that we can be celebratory and just joyful. [ MUSIC ] You can almost here the momentum of a tour bus in their phrases. I mean, beyond all the time you, there's no choice but to grow, you know. Are you Or you don't go anywhere. You have to work. So its really important I think not just for developing our sound for developing our band but also we're developing ourselves. [ MUSIC ] The band says the road has given them a great deal more that the purpose of inspiration.

You know, it made us really think about where we're from, and like what we were doing, and the message we were putting out there. [ MUSIC ] With such a clear mission, it's surprising that Givers almost didn't get together. In fact, the band credits a natural disaster We're pushing them in the right direction. [ MUSIC ] I, I honestly think that this band possibly wouldn't be formed if it wouldn't have been for hurricane Katrina. [ MUSIC ] It flooded our whole neighborhood, like water was like 12 feet high or something so we had no place in New Orleans anymore. And we just started hanging out in Lafayette every day.

[ MUSIC ] Play the music, and just connecting as friends, becoming best friends for life. And and that's like, kinda like, where like, we started, just like Not even considering making a band, just started considering making music everyday. There's this feeling like in the south before hurricane Katrina and after that life is like this gift to be appreciated. And just to step back every now and then, whether it's making food with your friends or making music with your friends or, or, or anything int the South. It feels like there's this general feeling of like, there's a reason to celebrate. We are gonna celebrate.

[ MUSIC ] And that, that totally goes all throughout our Music you know. And you can here that in every note that we play. And the fact that life is a gift. And this is, we're here to take note of that. [ MUSIC ] For Time video, I'm Meredith. [ NOISE ] [ MUSIC ] Hello [ INAUDIBLE ] Yeah. Alright.
