The virus is related to the flu, and was first discovered in 1962. It's rarely been reported in the United States, but in recent months, more than 500 in the US have been sickened by the virus. Most of them young children with asthma or respiratory problems. D68's symptoms look similar to those of the common cold at first. But it can cause rash, brain changes and, most commonly, mild or severe respiratory illness. Severe Symptoms Include signs of trouble breathing, including chest pains or wheezing, severed difficulty waking up and other cold like symptoms. Not a lot is known about it but it does seem similar to other Enteroviruses in several ways. It largely affects children and spreads through saliva and mucus, like coughs, sneezes, and infected surfaces. Currently, no vaccine exists, but one way to protect yourself is to get vaccinated for the flu, so you are less vulnerable to other infections. You can also wash your hands more frequently with soap and water, avoid contact with sick people, and avoid contact with frequently touched surfaces.
