## Transcript

>> I just joined the military not so much to help out Iraq but just to fight terrorism. I don't really care much about Iraq. Iraq is like a bad girlfriend, you know. You gotta watch what you do, watch what you say and you're gonna tread real light. I really liked what I did here. I've been a gunner both tours, take a lot of pride in it but everybody should do something for their country. Back home I'm a farmer, iron worker, bull rider, do a lot of hunting and fishing, just plain old country boy. I hate this place but somebody's gotta do it. I just see it as a-- it's like a scars, a good scar just another memory, a good way to tell a story because I know when my pa tells me a story I listen, you know.

I've heard a story 20 times apiece but I still listen because they sound so good. Just wanna be like him, you know.

>> My name is Specialist Mustafa and I'm from Fairfax City, Fairfax, Virginia. I'm 22 years old. I've always wanted to do something honorably as an Arab- American. I was born in Indiana, but my father is originally from Palestine and my father is actually in the Air Force. I haven't seen any religious dividence between the people I work with and they may have known I'm a Sunni and I might have known that they're Shiites. And it's very sad to see that people here can't go past who they are, where they come from, holding grudges, and I think for the future of Iraq and for the US soldiers for their hard work that they've done here that I wish that they can go forward as human beings coming from America having a freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and you can choose whatever you want especially in the military there's all kinds of people, people from different countries, different religions and we come under one thing.

We all wear green, soldiers wearing one uniform following same orders working together, no differences.

>> I'm Corporal Marston, Joshua. Second deployment in Iraq. I volunteered for both of them. I don't really wanna say it's not dangerous over here because it's still dangerous in certain areas, but it doesn't feel as stressful or as hostile as was the last time. Getting ready to go home is a different story. And once you get home it's incredibly hard especially being a National Guard go from doing something that is boring is what I do over here to going back and doing something that doesn't feel as important. Last deployment I got home and started working on computers. Didn't like it and since that first deployment and I know even after this deployment I just won't enjoy being a civilian again.

It's hard on families when you're gone. It's a lot harder on them that it is on us. We have all of our brothers and everybody we've known for how many years and just knowing anybody over here that's with us would do anything, put their life on the line to save you at any minute. It's just beyond anything you can explain. It's a barn closer than family.
