But moving from the couch to the desk apparently requires a sort of initiation. The passing of not a torch-- >> This is the Late Night Pickle. It's a giant. >> Wow. >> Passing, the passing of the pickle, I-- if anyone-- >> Yeah, don't know if I have room for it. I-- >> Hold back the emotions. >> Yes, the Late Night Pickle. Fallon said, " Surprisingly this is actually an established tradition now ." David Letterman's staff passed the pickle down to Conan O'Brien when he started hosting; and Conan then gave it to Jimmy when he took over. The headlines that followed Tuesday night show were predictable. Entertainment Tonight reported Conan's staff included a note in their hand- off to Jimmy. " Whenever you're done, which won't be for a long time, make sure you pass it on to the next sap. Knock 'em dead ." Jimmy said, it was great to finally get rid of the massive gourd, he starts hosting The Tonight Show February 17th. Oh, and that next sap, Meyers, he takes over Late Night one week later, February 24th.
