## Transcript

Welcome to the PageCast. I'm Mark Halperin of TIME Magazine. All the latest political news right here on a big day. Internationally, new governments coming in Russia and Japan, a big earthquake in Indonesia, but Iraq is the center again of American politics. General Petraeus, Ambassador Crocker will be talking in Washington at the National Press Club. President Bush, of course on Thursday night, will address the world about his latest plans on Iraq. A lot of speculation about just how he will announce his troop withdrawal and how that will be treated by both parties on the campaign trail-- Barack Obama at 2: 30 Eastern time a speech, and Clinton in Iowa announcing his latest version of how he'd like to withdraw troops from Iraq.

He says all troops would be out by the end of 2008 if he had his way. Iraq will dominate this race for quite some time. All the candidates being asked for their latest views, Senator Clinton, Senator McCain on the Republican Party-- Democratic Party out speaking quite a bit on the issue as are all the candidates. Polls are also out there today, a lot of polling data from the Los Angeles Times and Bloomberg in the key states of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. On the Republican side, poll shows that Mitt Romney still very strong in Iowa and New Hampshire, the frontrunner there where he spent a lot of money.

Rudy Giuliani also strong in those two states, and then in South Carolina, the newest Republican candidate, Fred Thompson, is leading in the poll there. On the Democratic side on those polling data, Senator Clinton is doing quite well Bloomberg and the Los Angeles Times, however, leading in Iowa. You can check out all that data on LAtimes. com, then a new national poll from ABC news and the Washington Post showing a lot of stability on the Democratic side. Senator Clinton with a lead she's enjoyed for quite some time, Barack Obama second, John Edwards third, no other Democratic candidate showing very much strength nationally.

And on the Republican side, that poll has Rudy Giuliani coming back to Earth, in second place Fred Thompson, then John McCain, and Mitt Romney showing once again the Republican race very much up for grabs with no clear frontrunner. All the latest political news all the time right here on The Page on TIME. com. I'm Mark Halperin.
