## Transcript

According to a new report Uber and Google may be encroaching on each other's territory. And while it remains to be seen what that means for the companies, it could be great for us. A report from Bloomberg says Google is working on it's own ride sharing app possibly using driverless cars and intended to rival Uber's app. The outlet writes, the companies are more likely to be ferocious competitors than allies. Which is odd since Google Ventures poured some $ 258 million into Uber, not too long ago, Uber's biggest investment at the time. Google's Chief Legal Officer David Drummond also sits on Uber's board.

The Bloomberg says the board is considering asking Drummond to resign. Similarly, Uber also made headlines Monday for its partnership with Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute. A move expected to help Uber develop, you guessed it, autonomous cars. That could put Uber in a spot to compete with Google. A number of outlets say Google has denied this rival ride sharing app report, mainly citing this tweet. But as you can see, Google didn't exactly deny it there. Adding another layer to the whole reported mess, Uber relies heavily on Google Maps for its ride sharing program to work. Google in turn uses Uber to collect data on how traffic is moving within cities.

Uber CEO, Travis Kalanick, has said before, he's fascinated with the idea of driverless taxi services, and one day. Hopes to roll out an entire fleet of them. Hello, I'm Johnny Cab. Where can I take you tonight? Hopefully minus the talking head. But if Kalanick wants to get into the driverless car business now, he's quite a few years behind Google. The company released this video showcasing a driverless car prototype nearly three years ago and then. Dropped this one last May. Fortunately, in either scenario, the consumer wins, as long as the cars are safe and affordable. Multiple tech companies rolling out autonomous car taxis means more competition for your business.

And no taxi drive to tip potentially means a cheaper ride. Neither Google nor Uber has made public statements denying Bloomberg's report.
