>> At the age of 38, Elon Musk has changed the way we do Internet Commerce. He's made the electric car undeniably sexy, and he ´ s making home solar power affordable.

>> Well, you know, I just wanted to get the involving things that are gonna make a significant difference to the future of humanity and there was the motivation for getting involved with the internet and then- and then its sustainable energy with Tesla and SolarCity.

>> Born in South Africa, the son of an engineer, Musk came to the United States and received degrees in both Physics and Business. As chief architect of Tesla Motors, it's been his strategy to first launch the attention- grabbing Roadster, which is priced for wealthy, early adopters. But then, used its success to fund the development of lower priced electric cars for the rest of us. Eight years ago, Musk founded his own rocket company, SpaceX, and in 2009 their Falcon 1 rocket became the first privately funded vehicle to put a satellite in the Earth orbit.

>> Only a handful of countries in the world have achieved orbit and that's like the whole country kinda doing it, you know.

>> Now, thanks to a bold new initiative by President Obama, NASA is partnering with private enterprise and SpaceX is at the forefront of the revolution. They have contracts to carry cargo and ultimately, astronauts, to and from the space station, so that NASA can focus on what it does best,

>> exploring and conquering frontiers-- with the new goal of putting humans on Mars.

>> Life has to be about more than just solving problems. You gotta have, you know, reasons to be inspired and stay, you know, excited about life and I think space exploration is definitely one of those- one of those things.
