## Transcript

>> Ma'am are you going to vote?

>> Thank you for coming out this morning.

>> It's only 6: 30 a. m. and lines to vote have already formed at College Hill, an early voting site in Tampa, Florida. Bernadine White- King is a volunteer poll worker for the Democratic Black Caucus.

>> We have maybe like two intercity early voting places and people are really showing up.

>> So I just take the chance to get up early thinking I can get a jumpstart and I-- looks like I got a little bit of one that much though.

>> Yesterday, they did 1, 300 here. The day before, they did 11. So my last count here was like 7, 000, so add 1, 300 to that, that's 8, 300.

>> The turnout numbers at College Hill are more than double the amount in 2004.

>> When early voting was not open from 7 to 7, we saw people that were standing at line at least two hours and forty- five minutes. Now the average time once the line gets looped twice, it's about an hour.

>> Have your pictured ID in your hand when you get to the door. This community is I would say poverty level. We are right across the street from what was one of the biggest public housing projects in Hillsborough County.

>> You see all types of people vote, and I mean young. I mean, this-- this is the first time I've seen this many people in my life.

>> All across Florida, African- American voters are turning out in huge numbers. They account for 16 percent of early and absentee voting giving an advantage to Democrats. But while numbers are high, many voters in this community recalling prior elections are concerned about the voting process.

>> I've seen it on the TV yesterday, they were showing these voting machines where you can take-- it can show that, it want you to vote the wrong way 10 percent of the time. So they can take this chip and put another chip in and that would look like that everybody voted for John McCain, they didn't vote for Obama and I don't like that.

>> I think all that is, my opinion, is a-- a scare tactic. I mean, the only reason they're putting all that stuff on TV because they want us to think like we did, you know, we brought into that in 2004 and a lot of people probably didn't vote because they didn't think their vote was going to count, but it's not going to work, and I know they can say whatever they wanna say on TV about he's behind, I know in November the 4th come we'll know the real deal. That's all it is.

>> You have to make your own mind, if you can't believe the poll. Even when you listen at the different stations on TV, some say McCain, some say Obama.

>> Still their fears didn't keep them from coming out.

>> This election has awakened up something in people that is not going to go back to sleep. I mean, I never-- I always voted but I was never involved in all the debates and all that.

>> As day broke, the lines remained steady.

>> Did you vote?

>> About to now.

>> This voter's daughter was in labor.

>> I'm on my way to take picture on that, it's our first baby and my ninth grandchild.

>> Oh my God!

>> But this was a little bit more important. This yeah! Yeah! I say can you just hold off a few minutes I'll be there. So I'm on my way there now.

>> Good for you.

>> Who did you vote for?

>> Who you think?

>> My biggest fear is that this-- this election process will not be honored and I cannot imagine the civil unrest that will happen in this country. I just think it'll be the end of America.

>> I did it. I voted.

>> So how does it feel?

>> It feels really good to go and vote and I did the right thing and so I enjoyed that. I always enjoy that. I do.

>> Natasha Del Toro for TIME. com Tampa, Florida.
