The kidnapped Nigerian girls, who inspired worldwide outrage and calls to bring them home safely, appear in a new video released by Boko Haram. [ CROSS_TALK ] We believe that the girls are reciting the first verse of the Koran. The girls, all of whose faces we've blurred wear full length hijabs in the video, signifying them as now Muslim. Several media outlets have now obtained copies of the video. Boko Haram had already taken credit for the mid- April kidnapping of more than 200 school girls in the northeastern Nigerian city of Chibok. Three of the girls also stood up and spoke to the camera taping the group.

They mostly looked at the ground as they spoke. The BBC reports two of the girls said they were Christians who converted their religion to Islam, while the the third said she was a Muslim. One of the girls told the camera they had not been harmed. Mid- Monday morning, MSNBC reported U. S. officials believe the video is authentic. And the girls shown in the video are the ones kidnapped last month. While he did not appear in the shot with the girls, Boko Haram's leader, Abubakar Shekau, spoke for several minutes. [ FOREIGN ]. These girls, these girls you occupy yourselves with. We have indeed liberated them.

Do you know we've liberated them. These girls have become Muslims. The families of these girls now will be trained I mean it's, it's hopeful that, that at least I think the, the, the girls are alive. That is one of the few things families can be thankful for at this point. Pressure is mounting on what's perceived as an incredibly slow response by President Goodluck Jonathan and the Nigerian government to save the girls. U. S. and international military advisors arrived in Nigeria late last week and over the weekend to assist in strategies to get the girls back. Shekau says he will exchange the girls only after members of Boko Haram now being held in prison are released.

Boko Haram has taken credit for several Nigerian attacks in recent months in an effort to create an Islamic state. It's name means western education is forbidden. I'm Cliff Judy.
