[ MUSIC ] What can we today learn from the one percent from ancient Rome? The reason I picked Marcus Crassus, you know this is 2000 years ago, but he became one of the wealthiest men in Rome. Now how did he do it? Well he did it in a way that I'm happy to say is not too popular right now. Essentially he took the property of others Now that is, generally speaking, the modern day a very bad way to get rich. The one case where it happened on a huge scale in the modern day, and it made a ton of people rich, is Russia. There's privatization. And so all of the assets in Russia went up for grabs and reallocated in a kind of a very untransparent way.

And made a lot of people very rich, very suddenly, when this Happened. Is there an opportunity in the world somewhere that's similar to late 80's, early 90's, Russia? Essentially, what's happening right now is, in the world of intellectual property rights, like in software, this is property that you own. But it is an idea. And so if you hire a bunch of lawyers and go on the attack you can actually take other people's property. Patent trolls, that's the most common name non- practicing entities that do this. These are firms that basically function like the lesions of ancient Rome to attack companies that are making things and seize their property based on the fact that the property rights they have in terms of intellectual property are pretty ill defined.
