## Transcript

I have the best job in the world. Put it up there, hold it, let's see. I mean, I get to get paid for going through somebody's house and taking all the stress and all the aggravation, and making their life with their family, and their holiday better, and they pay me for it. I don't know that it gets any better than that. Richie Johns has lit and decorated hundreds of homes over the last decade. This one is special. Good Morning. Morning sir, how are you? I'm Hector with Christmas Decor. It's the home of Tom Mahoney, a veteran of World War Two. And an electrician on- board the sea plane Tender Curtis damaged in the attack on Pear Harbor 70 years ago this month.

This is my ship right here with Pearl Harbor. I was on board, my brother was with me. On December 7th, 1941. Tom lives in Union City, New Jersey. A few miles away Richie manages a local branch of the national holiday decorating company, Christmas Decor. How we doing? We're all packed up. Every year he takes part in their charitable initiative called Decorated Family, which each year provides about 100 military families across the country with the free lighting of their home. It's giving back. It's doing for people who really need the assistance, it brings a smile to them. It brings a joy to the holiday.

You need four suction cups on that thing. Typically Richie picks one home with an active military member serving overseas. But this spring when Tom came into his flower shop wearing his Pearl Harbor hat, Richie decided then and there he would make an exception and decorate two houses this year. I asked for mums, and he says, Pearly Harbor survivor? [ INAUDIBLE ] This hat on. He's, my God, he says, the mums are free. And he says, not only that we're going to decorate your house. So I says, oh my God, you're going to decorate my house and I haven't had a decorator in 16 years. On top of that. I want to show you the cake we got you.

Today is his 90th birthday. We're going to sing you a happy birthday [ CROSSTALK ]. How's that? Thank you, Rich. Richie and his team are doing a patriotic theme today matching Tom's collection of American flags on this front yard. They are laying down over a dozen stands of red, white, and blue lights covering the roof, tree, and banisters. Right here, come on. Topped off with four carefully laid wreaths over the windows. [ SOUND ] All ready. [ SOUND ] It's been a long day, but it comes with it's known rewards for the crews as well. Two nights work, kid. Richie's crew Supervisor, 21 year old Hector Reyes, was discharged from the military only a few months ago.

It's not often he gets the chance to meet one of the oldest vets in the country. And I was in the Marine Corps. Beautiful, Marine Corps? Yeah, I was a Corporal, sir. I admire you guys. He's very proud of what he's done. You're in the Marines from start to finish. And [ INAUDIBLE ] showed me around his house and let me enter his house. And show me all those pictures and show me all those accomplishments. Yeah that's president It's a really cool thing. With the sun setting and the last few red bulbs laid in to the ground, it's time for the grand unveiling. There you go, leave it on sharp. Tom look at the tree out.

I see, it's gorgeous. See it? Yeah. Tom is unable to make it outside due to a bad back but he got a pretty good view from the doorstep. Look at this place. You got people riding slow past the house now. For Time Video, I'm Jacob Templin in Union City, New Jersey. [ NOISE ] [ BLANK_AUDIO ] [ NOISE ]
