## Transcript

More than 100 people have been confirmed dead in the wake of one, this horrific ferry disaster off the coast of South Korea, and officials say nearly twice that number are still missing and are likely stuck inside the sunken vessel. 108 people. Most of them high school students now confirmed dead. Nearly 200 others still missing. Rescue efforts in the first days after the ferry capsized were hampered by bad weather conditions and murky water. By time reports the death toll soared Monday, after rescue divers found alternate ways to reach bodies. Trapped in the underwater wreckage. Divers were reportedly able to recover 28 bodies Monday and 21 more Tuesday, bringing the total number of victims to 108.

But search crews still have a long road ahead of them. Hundreds of people are still unaccounted for in what South Korean authorities are calling the country's worst maritime disaster. Since 1993. The ferry capsized without warning Wednesday morning with 476 people on board. The majority of the passengers were high school students on their way to a southern island for a field trip. Exactly why or how the ferry suddenly capsized is still unclear. But South Korean authorities told reporters they have arrested nine crew members in connection with the accident. The ferry's captain was among those taken into custody.

Prosecutors charged him and two other crew members with negligence and violating maritime law. After investigators say the three abandoned the sinking ship before helping others on board to safety. But four of those crew members said Tuesday even they couldn't reach the ferry's lifeboats. That the vessel started to go down. CNN quotes one as saying they made attempts to do so, but it was hard to go there. If the captain is convicted on all the charges against him, he could face life in prison.
