## Transcript

Put in an awkward spot by one of its own. The National Rifle Association issued a rare apology to effectively return itself to much more comfortable ground. After criticizing open carry protesters last week whose behavior it called weird and scary, the NRA's chief lobbyist, Chris Cox, had this to say Wednesday. And that was a mistake. It shouldn't have happened. And our job's not to criticize the lawful behavior of fellow gun owners. Our job is to effectuate policy changes that expands and protects our member's right of self defense. The controversy followed these protests in Texas, where gun owners tried to bring semiautomatic rifles and shotguns to big chain restaurants, to demonstrate their Second Amendment rights.

This May 30th NRA article reads in part, the carrying of assault rifles in public is downright weird and certainly not a practical way to go normally about your business while being prepared to defend yourself. The NRA has since called the article the personal opinion of a staffer. NRA opponents had previously derided the rifle- carrying demonstrators Open Carry Texas, as out of touch with mainstream America. With the NRA's apology Tuesday night, headlines quickly returned, bringing up that issue. Tuesday night, Open Carry Texas issued this statement, thanking the NRA, and presumably ending a previous threat to remove its support of the organization.

Thanks for watching, I'm Megan Judy.
