Abortion is a deeply personal decision. It should not be a political debate. We should not be playing doctor with women's lives. Its the biggest political, purely political and I understand your story but you don't understand mine. [ MUSIC ] I had a procedure at 17 weeks, pregnant with a child that had moved from the vagina into the cervix. At 16 I got an abortion. And I had to go to my dad, and I had to tell him, Dad, I don't wanna be like my sisters. I wanna do better, and I know that I can't do it if I have a baby just like everybody else in this family. My doctor told me that this pregnancy would likely not be viable.

And that if I did not take swift medical action, my life and any hope of future babies would be in severe danger. I heard all these stories that just fit your scenario. And I respect Which you don't respect my reason, my rape, my abortion. When I was a child, I was molested. Were you? Person. By one particular person. It turns out he had many many victims. This man is a minister. He was my grandfather and one of my relatives asked him What if I get pregnant. And he said, don't worry we'll just stick a pencil up there and take care of it. And my dad gave me the money. And I went with a friend of mine and I'll never forget being there and having that done.

That procedure that you just talk about Was a procedure that I enjoy. But for you to stand on this floor and to suggest, as you have, that somehow this is a procedure that is either welcomed or done cavalierly Or, done without any thought, is preposterous. This decision was up to me, my husband, my doctor, and my God. It was not up to any of you. In this chamber. I don't regret it. I don't regret it because I am here making a difference, at least in my mind, for me and the other young ladies. And I guarantee you there are other women. Who should stand up with me and be courageous enough to speak that voice.
