[ MUSIC ] So the biggest mistake that I see people on a resume is that it's too long. Research shows the average interview were doesn't look at resume for more than one minute so you need to do is to keep be brief and truly give number and percentages to qualify it The eye of the interviewer will quickly scan the resume to look for these facts. You also want to look at the original job description, make sure that you are accentuating that you have the exact skills, and exact experience that that job description question is asking for. A big mistake that I'll see is that folks don't clean up their online image before they go out and interview.

So anyone who's going to interview you is going to always do a deep search on the web looking for anything that they can find to give a sense of how you operate in the world and how you spend your time outside of work, and the last you want them to do is stumble upon something that is slightly or even very inappropriate. [ MUSIC ] The number one tip for career advancement is to step up and do the job that you're interested in doing. Careers now are less of a ladder. It's more of a jungle gym. So what you want to do is think about lateral moves, task forces. Covering for someone who's out on parental leave.

Thinking of those stretched delegation assignments that you can take on. That old expression, kind of dress the part for the job that you want. You want to step up and play that role for the job that you want to get. So to go after your dream job I think it's first important to talk to people who are in those jobs, or get a sense of how people in the industry who are in those jobs got there. Then really create a vision statement where you say, for example, in five or ten years, where you want to be, and the plan backwards. What are the actions you need to take, the conversations you need to have, and the people that you need to somehow network To get to know in order to get there.
