[ MUSIC ] Babies are a universal language. They are a blank slate with all of the sense of possibility for the world. That's really why I do what I do. [ MUSIC ] There's some questions, maybe half a dozen, that I get asked all the time. Wow, you must be so patient. I guess you have to be, but I actually love my subject matter, so it's just what I do. [ NOISE ] Perfect. [ MUSIC ] Don't just look at your baby, get down to your baby's level, right. Because that's the way they see the world. There's another world that's happening down there and that's what you need to relate to. [ MUSIC ] You have to just be silly, you have to let go a little bit.

Sing whatever songs they like. [ MUSIC ] Years and years ago, I had a little baby, about six or seven months old, and the dad leaned over and whispered in my ear, she loves it if you pretend you're a choo- choo train. And I said, well, go for it. This is what it's all about, this sense of joy that comes with babies. They got beautiful bodies, you know I mean they're just divine, got big chubby legs and they feel like marshmallow, and they got big tummies. And they're just perfect, absolutely perfect. So I don't cover them up too much, you know don't swaddle them in clothing. [ MUSIC ] Just try to capture the charm of the particular age they're at.

[ MUSIC ] I only ever photograph babies in the morning. Because generally speaking, babies are better in the morning. [ MUSIC ] [ SOUND ] Keep it simple but keep the character line. And so you wanna look back on some of these images that you've taken and remember him or her as a two year old and that morning when they didn't wanna wear matching socks. [ MUSIC ] One of the most wonderful things about what I do, is when you bring a baby in and they give you that little something extra that you never knew was possible right at that moment. [ SOUND ] [ MUSIC ] I love the fact that babies can bring magic to an image.
