## Transcript

The World Cup is a huge deal for Brazil. And the fact that they're hosting it this year makes the pressures on the Brazilian national team even greater. Everybody, 200 million Brazilians, and billions of fans around the world expect the Brazilian team to win. They've won it five times before, they're playing at home, and they play, when they're playing at their best this attractive, vibrant form of soccer called Joga Bonito, which means the beautiful game, that all of us know and love. But of all the Brazilian players, nobody carries the weight of expectations as Neymar. He is 22 years old. He is the superstar.

He wears number 10, the number that Pele once used to wear. He's a goal scorer. He has a track record of success. Both for his national team and, more recently, for FZ Barcelona, where he now plays professionally. On him, lie the hopes of 200 million Brazilians. In the past, he has carried this pressure well. He seems to be able to shake off the weight of expectation and play a natural game that makes them so popular. He's also something of a style icon. Millions of young boys around the world copy his hair style, in the manner that we used to see with David Beckham. He's very popular with advertisers because he has a charming personality, a wonderful winning smile, but over the next month none of those things will matter.

The only thing that Brazilians want from Neymar is that he scores goals, goals and goals. If he can pull this off, if he can lead his country to its sixth World Cup and its first World Cup victory at home, then he will become a god for Brazilians. He will become one of the greatest players the sport has ever known. But think of the amount of pressure that he carries on those fairly narrow shoulders. Nobody should have to carry that kind of a burden. It's a miracle that Neymar can go out and play at all. I interviewed Neymar a couple of years ago for Time Magazine, and at that time, asked him what he thought of the World Cup.

It was still two years away, but it was already very clear that he would be the one leading the line of the Brazilian team. And he told me then that he didn't feel any particular pressure. But I wonder now, as he represents his country, as he carries the hopes of his people, what he feels when the ball is at his feet. Is he thinking of Joga Bonito, the beautiful game? Or is he thinking of what could happen, or the backlash that he will face if he fails. I hope it's the former. I hope he's only thinking of scoring goals.
