## Transcript

>> Turns out Ariel Castro wasn't only serial criminal living on his street in Cleveland. Elias Acevedo, Sr ., who once lived a few doors down from Castro and was accused of murdering two young women in 1990s pleaded guilty Monday to hundreds of serious charges.

>> In all, he agreed to plead guilty to 297 counts including killing the two women and kidnapping and rapping children.

>> Authorities say Acevedo strangled 30- year- old Pamela Pemberton in 1994 before leaving her body in an abandoned lot. Then in 1995, he killed pregnant 18- year- old Christina Atkins. But after the prosecution offered to not seek the death penalty if he gave them details about each crime, local media outlets report he confessed to all 297 counts against him. Acevedo initially pleaded not guilty to the murders and the other charges against him.

>> There's not a day that go by that I cry. I wish that it never happened and I'm sorry.

>> Police were able to uncover 49- year- old Acevedo's crimes after Castro was arrested back in May for kidnapping, raping, and holding three women hostage in his home for 10 years. Once Castro was in custody, authorities decided to reexamine other disappearances that occurred in his neighborhood. Acevedo was sentenced to 445 years in prison without the possibility of parole. For TIME, I'm Carissa Loethen.
