>> Australia's stand ended in a ceremony at Tarin Kot with the flick of a pen and the lowering of a flag that is flown over Afghan's soil for more than a decade. The base now belongs to Afghanistan and for these soldiers, this war is over. The place that has been stationed, sanctuary, a second home has been cleared out and packed away.

>> This war is ending and not with victory, not with defeat but with hope.

>> The first troops came in late 2001 to take on the Taliban.
