## Transcript

>> There are more what you'd expect out of a cartoon or a museum, not in downtown Seattle. Construction workers digging at a housing development site found what experts believed is a tusk from the Ice Age.

>> In dream as digging in the dirt is to find something.

>> It was late morning when Wells spotted the tusk, a reddish, purple and white thing, right next to the water pipe he was working on.

>> It's there around.

>> Once researchers had a chance to look at the find, they confirmed it's a well- preserved tusk from likely either a mammoth or a mastodon. It of course set off a lot of social media buzz and headlines in the area with people amazed; you can get a find like that in heavily developed Seattle. The city sits in the middle of an area that saw glacier activity time and again over the last 2. 4 million years. So the sediment is perfect for these finds. While smaller mastodons went extinct thousands of years earlier, the last of the woolly mammoths is believed to have died around 1700 BC, once common on the Arctic tundra from Siberia to North America, they may have died off as the weather and food supply changed.

In 1977 a bulldozer accidentally unearthed baby mammoth Dima in Siberian permafrost. Dima was so well preserved; it even retains some of its chestnut- colored hair. As for the tusk found in Seattle, local media report it belongs to the owner of the property where it was found. No word on their plans at this point. Thanks for watching. I'm Cliff Judy.
