## Transcript

Joan Rivers remains in critical, but stable condition. Thursday, she went into cardiac arrest and stopped breathing during a minor throat procedure. The 81 year old comedian and entertainer was then placed in a medically induced coma at New York's Mt. Sinai Hospital. Her daughter, Melissa Rivers, gave an update on her mother Friday morning. Saying she was still in serious condition and thanking everyone for their support. She's resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers. The New York Daily news reports it's unknown how long she was not breathing and her doctors will have to bring her out of the coma to **** how it might have affected her.

The new of her hospitalization came as a surprise to many. Rivers' had taped a special Emmy episode, Fashion Police, just days before. Time for a rousing Emmy Awards round of our game, Spit it Out. But, as WCBS reported, even routine procedures, like Rivers, can go wrong. Especially in older patients. There could be heart arrhythmias breathing can stop, you never know. And also, the elderly tend to metabolize medications a little bit differently. Rivers has received an outpouring of support from fellow celebrities, including Ellen DeGeneres, Larry King, and Kelly Ripa
