## Transcript

[ MUSIC ] Hi, this is Al Robertson, narrator of the audio book Happy, Happy, Happy. The audio book is sort of the philosophies of my dad. And it really is about his whole sort of character of how he really came to be the man that he became. It tells you a lot about his beginnings which explains so much as to why he's so passionate about, you know, outdoors and hunting and those type of things. And also even taught me a lot from understanding how we grew up the way we did sort of living off the land and where that process came from. And so the Happy, Happy, Happy is a, it's really the background of the man that you see now and gives so much about that.

Of course a big part of that is his spiritual conversion and how that impacted our lives as well. The main reason I narrated the book is because I knew Dad would never do the whole thing. You know, I'm not the most patient of people, but I have a lot more patience than he does. And so I didn't think he could ever get through it, and I think that's probably true, but really, I wanted to do it, because, when you grow up in a family, you know, there are similar mannerisms. And one of the things that Dad and I share a lot is that we love to go out and speak. We love to, you know, get in front of an audience, and that's just something that he and I both share.

Probably more than any of the other brothers. We actually enjoy that. And so you know, one of the reasons why I wanted to do that was be able to so, sort of get his voice out there as I've seen it. And so I thought, you know, if anybody was going to do this book other than him I was probably the next best choice. To hear the pages come alive in a voice should be very a, a very pleasing and a very powerful experience. You know when you're reading something you always put your own narrative into it, and your own experience into it. But when someone else is reading it, especially someone like me, an, an of course I lived, so much of this book in my own life you really get the mannerisms of dad and the way he would say it in his own words.

I think it'll be a, a real positive thing. I think it'll be a, enjoyable for people. And I encourage and listen it myself, even though, you know, for me I'll be picking up on all the wrong things I did. Well it's interesting because Dad is really funny and, and a lot of his mannerisms in the way he frames and phrases things are funny, and so, I enjoyed a lot of that. And just telling some of the stories. And, the ones I grew up hearing my whole life, and I've retold them many times myself. But I think probably, my favorite part would be the most powerful part. It was the part that was difficult because I was very emotionally moved, myself.

It was, was right at the heart of the, of the chapter on Dad's conversion. And course I remember it so well because I lived it, but to read those words again and every time I read it, or every time, you know, now I listen to it I have that same emotion that sorta wells up in me. Just to realize how close my parents were to never putting it all together. For him to never become a Christian and how different our lived would have become and I was shocked, you know, to know that Mom was so affected by what was happening that she would really even think about ending her life. And then to know that, that we my brothers and I, and me in particular made such a big difference in her, you know, hanging on and her deciding that no you can't do this.

This is a very emotional and powerful thing. So to record that part and reading her words and, and doing it from her perspective was a very powerful thing for me. So that's a great experience that I take away from this process. [ MUSIC ]
