## Transcript

Hi, I'm Belinda Luscombe from TIME. Barry Gibb is one of the most successful musicians of all time. He's the artistic force behind something like 66, 600 songs, 28 albums. He's about to go on tour again and super psyched and [ INAUDIBLE ] to say he's here to answer questions for TIME magazine. Mr. Gibb, welcome. Thank you, Belinda. So, tell me, why have you decided to tour again? I had lost all my brothers and, I, I just sat around for a long time. I sat around for many months. And, and getting past all of that, in fact for the whole family getting past all of that, you know? And you never do.

That's what you learn. You never really do. So, really my wife just said, you know. Do something with yourself. You know, get out of the house, get on the stage again, you know? And she drove me to that. You've actually pulled off an amazing coupe in sort of Pop music history. In that you've been married to the same woman for. 43 years. 43 years. Which I think in Rock years is a geological era. It's maybe four centuries or something. Is there a secret? It's not a secret. We were always in love. It was just that simple. [ LAUGH ] and. Just that simple. Well it is. The same sense of humor, the same.

We saw everything together, we saw. You know, how, how do you go through everything without sharing it with somebody. And she shares it with me. So all of the insights I've ever had, she has too. We share em, and we laugh all the time. You know? Maybe not, maybe not all the time. [ LAUGH ] But plenty. But plenty. What do you know about fame now, that you wish you knew, 40 years ago? It's just not that big a deal. Right. But it is very invasive when you're young. Yeah. And, and, it, it, it controls the way you think. And I don't every want to be like that again. I don't, fame will take you, and you've gotta take it, you know?

Do you mean the fear of the public eye, or wanting more. Not having any privacy. Right. You know? Not being able to answer your own phone. And little things that now I enjoy doing. not, people climbing over your. Walls and things like that. You know? They still do it. And people come to the gates and they take pictures. And, and, I like to meet them and say hello and have pictures taken. So it's sort of pretty much the same as it always was. Except that I'm older. Yeah. You know? So it doesn't go to your head so much. No. No. When you're wondering around Florida, you still get stopped by people a lot.

Yeah. Yeah. And. And I still get asked for my ID. So, you know, I once entered in a hot dog, in a hot dog store in Miami. I entered a competition as a joke with a friend. It was called Barry Gibb look- a- like competition. And I came third. [ LAUGH ]. So you know life is always going [ LAUGH ]. You know, I really don't, I can't tell the difference any more. Except that it's nice to be able to reflect with a little bit more experience. Do you miss the kind of, the Justin Bieber level of fame that you, you had? No. It's really like being lost, and, and, when Andy was around that age, you know, he had a pet tiger.

Well, he, there's Justin with a pet monkey. Mm- hm. So I see all the signs of someone who really doesn't know how to deal with it all yet. Hopefully he'll reach that stage he's very, very gifted and I hope that he grows into the role. What do you think that all great song writers, is there one particular talent that they have in common? Is it more important to have the ear or is it more important to have the understanding of human nature? I think the understanding of human nature. [ INAUDIBLE ] [ LAUGH ] A couple, a couple of you get them. That narrows it down. Yeah, that narrows it down. Yeah for me once again it's Paul McCartney, Willie Nelson, Hoagy Carmichael, Rogers and Hammerstein, Rodgers.

Those people. Those people. Rodgers and Hart. And, you know, I can, I can't watch Carousel without crying. I can't watch South Pacific without crying. You're kind of sappy, actually. It turns out. I'm really sappy. Yeah. Yeah. The Notebook. I sit with, I sat with a towel on my knee. You know? [ LAUGH ] And my daughter said, you've got to see this film. So, cuz she knows. She, you know, that I'm going to start crying. Do you get jokers who come up and say, hey, Barry, how deep is your love. [ LAUGH ] You don't? I get people come up to me and say, get out of the way [ LAUGH ]. That too? [ LAUGH ] Mr.

Gibb, thank you so much. Thank you, love.
