## Transcript

When you understand the energy that's packed into a big wave and you see one coming, get your heart and your throat Just to start with. There's very few things that you will do on this planet that demand the kind of attention and the kind of focus that that demands. There's just nothing like it. It's magic. [ MUSIC ] I'm Laird Hamilton and I'm best known for big wave riding, but I call myself and innovator [ MUSIC ] There was a barrier, like the four minute mile, and Owen allowed us to ride waves that were 80 foot. And so using mechanized vehicle in order to pull you into these giant waves that you normally can't manually get into, which led to this famous wave in Tahiti called Teahupoo, otherwise known as [ UNKNOWN ].

Then we kind of changed people's perspective about what was rideable. [ SOUND ] I couldn't say that Teahupoo was my singular one. I think it was the singular one at that moment. [ MUSIC ] I've had some since then Then some of the biggest waves that have ever been ridden by anyone and when there's no picture, it's so easy to take a picture and say oh, this and that from your couch. But when you're the guy out there doing the thing, whole different story. [ LAUGH ] [ MUSIC ] My main focus is hydrofoil surfing because I know in my heart that the only way you can ride the biggest waves in the world will be on hydrofoil.

There's nothing like it. It's the most efficient way to be in the water. As soon as you're up on the foil, You've just left the ground, so it feels like flying. You wait your lifetime for a moment. Your whole life for one moment. For an hour, a minute. And I will prepare for 50 years to have one ride.
