I'm a direct descendant of John Theodore Mclean, the father of the first American Revolution and I'm from Detroit, Michigan. >> And we see as a chance to make real change. You've seen some in the elections and how they've gone. We believe we've had a hand in that, we as the Tea Party. I've never seen this level of passion and involvement in politics before. I feel like for 14 years, I would go knock on people's door for whatever candidate I was working for and I would literally be dragging the remote out of their hand and dragging them off the sofa and say, " Please care ." They care now. >> My reason for getting motivated some of the primary ones was when we start talking about the stimulus package, tarp just all the ear marks, just really started seeing the budget ballooned and knowing that as that budget began to balloon enlisting to the type of policies, then also meant that the government was gonna balloon and I had a real issue with a lot of debt and large government. That was one of the big-- In the beginning, that was a big premise that pulled me into the Tea Party. >> I have never seen the erosion of our rights and the infringement upon our liberties by our expansion in this government like I've seen especially in the last 18 months or so. It's unprecedented. >> Now a lot of people that I've talked to prior to coming here were talking about it like it was gonna be, you know, some big protest meeting. In fact, several people on our way here said, " You know-- Well, good, I'm glad to see people are going to these protest meetings ." And I told him I said, " No, this is a training meeting. You know, we're going-- we're going to learn about how other people are doing this thing ." >> Hello-- The big purpose here was really to middle out the people I've already met through the nation as I've traveled with the Tea Party Movement. Well, it's really what I expect to take from and is a general understanding of where we're going like our forefathers did when they got together in Philadelphia to try to figure out how they had, what kind of commonalities they had when they drafted the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. >> I wanna be here if I can be helpful certainly to learn. There's so much to learn, so many different backgrounds, all different kinds of people. The new media is terribly exciting and so-- so we're just thrilled to be here, thrilled to be part of it, feels like an honor and it feels like something very historic. I didn't wanna miss this event that I told my daughter. I think she'll be telling her grandchildren about someday. >> I'm Lidel Lauden. I'm from Saint Louis and I've got into the Tea Party originally through my parents. My mom is one of the Saint Louis Tea Party Founders and I started going a Tear Party with her and I like what I saw and wanna just take a part of it. >> I hope the youth have been out there and they get involved. It was extremely important and I think as I expressed today, the investment you're making today's generation pays off for the next five generations and encourages the next five generations after that. As you saw today, we had three generations of young conservatives. They invested in the next one and it's paying off. >> I'm just-- I've been amazed of the Tea Party Movement just how since people are and how many women are involved. A lot of Tea Party organizers are women and I grew up in a culture where people told me that women are Democrats. Democrats care about women's issues. But they never really could tell me what these women's issues are and to me the most important issues for women are the most important issues for everyone. Energy Independents, National Security and just a strict interpretation of the Constitution; those are the most important issues to me and I think that's the most important issues to a lot of women so that's a little bit about how I got involved in the Tea Party. >> We came here kinda hope and see Sarah Palin. I'm not gonna lie. >> What do you like about Sarah Palin? >> Really. Again, I'm not gonna lie, she is just famous and we wanna know about Sarah Palin. >> And this is an invitation to Sarah to come to Brunswick, unite the Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina Tea Parties and I will rally there if she is available. >> Oh, say does that star- spangled banner yet-- >> Great to be at the tea party convention. I guess down here that's some southern sweet tea. And you know what? In Alaska, we have a smaller version of tea party up there. The tea party movement is not a top- down operation.
