Another way of saying that is, that Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago. What do we want? Justice. When do we want it? Now. One of the earliest criticisms from the black community was that the President was not doing enough to address issues facing that community. That kind of changed after these immigrant verdicts. We the jury find George Zimmerman not guilty. So say we all, four person. And after that moment in history there was kind of a shift in the Obama presidency to finding a way to address issues facing the communities of color particularly he have men on those communities that was the moment the the Black Lives Matter movement When it kind of started. It's time to put black lives on the forefront of the thoughts of all Americans. Young black men were being shot by police officers and the president had to address the nation. Find a way to bring healing and bring people together and see both sides. And I think in seeing both sides, a lot of the protestors, the people on the ground, even though they wanted to hear from the President, they realized that there were things that he couldn't change and he wouldn't change. People of our city! Other people of our city! Getting bullet assed! Stop looking to Obama to answer all of their questions. To solve all their problems and instead took to the streets and demanded more of local government, demanded more of police officers within their own communities. People saw the election of the first Black president as this kind of And a period of racial strife in American history. But at the same time we look at polling from the 2016 election. A lot of people blamed Obama for making race relations worse. He's leaving behind a more socially divided nation than he inherited.
