I can imagine what was going through my mom's mind and her heart. Anything could have happened that night. But her love was so strong for her family, that she was willing to risk everything to give us an opportunity. [ MUSIC ] I am Cesar Vargas and I'm an attorney and a co- director of the Dream Action Coalition, an advocacy organization pushing for immigration reform. I'm undocumented, my mother's undocumented, but I am an American. For me this is home. I thought that I need to be a lawyer to represent my Community to fight for my family. But there's a Federal law that says that you can not grant professional licenses to undocumented immigrants. So we essentially challenged that law to tell them very clearly that immigration status has no bearing on your ability to practice law. And we eventually won. We've opened the door, really to the American dream that regardless of where you come from you can be a lawyer, you can be a doctor so long as you commit the hard work. I learned from my mother sacrifice and to the journey that i have been through the responsibility to ensure that the doors of opportunity are open for so many other people. For everyone regardless of the ima [ UNKNOWN ]. Status, regardless of gender, regardless of religion or sexual orientation. That is what the American dream is about and that's something that for me I take it very personally that is why I do everything that I do.
