## Transcript

[ MUSIC ] When people listen to our music, Return to Forever, there's so many different ideas about what it is. You could survey the audience from young to old and say, what do you think that was? And they'll put it in a lot of different categories of music. [ MUSIC ] Since this is instrumental music, there's no vocals in this music, there's no lyrics. You see we play instruments When we go into the C minor bridge. At that point the whole band comes down. And I tell them to look for the way we exchange ideas spontaneously and the way we are interacting with one another. And that's the joy of the way this music occurs and what happens within it.

[ MUSIC ] Myself and my bandmates in Return to Forever, we're kinda children of the 60s and the 70s I cut my teeth in New York on music in the 60s. I came here right after high school and I started working with bands. So, I began Return to Forever in 1971 or so. And Stanley was there. We've had various versions of the band. That's why this band is called Return to Forever 4. Then we went our separate ways and developed, you know, musical careers. And then started doing reunions gradually. [ MUSIC ]. This tour is like a brand new band, except that the, there's three of us from the original 70s band.

Myself, Stanley Clark, great bass player, composer, and Lenny White, the drummer. We've added to the group an incredible musician who was also part of the 70's what we called, music fu -, Jazz fusion movement. Jean Luc Ponty, the violinist, the violin and the guitar together, all of a sudden open the orchestral possibilities of the music way up. [ MUSIC ] The thing that inspires me is artistic creation from other people. Youth now who are, who are younger musicians who have taken the tradition of music and who are very creative and doing creative things. That's who I get my inspiration from. [ MUSIC ] So we see that the thing that we love to do is, is appreciated and and people get pleasure out of it, so, we wanna do it more, you know?
