>> For your Late- Night Highlight, a little blast from the past on The Tonight's Show. Jay Leno showed Meredith Vieira's very first news broadcast from her very first job ever.

>> You'll be pleased to know the snowman melts at the rate of 1 inch per hour. Meredith Vieira, Newswatch 10, Stonehill College in Eastern Massachusetts. I was rubbing him a lot though. Wasn't I? That's so weird.

>> Well, yeah. We were all thinking that. But weird or not, Vieira was gorgeous

>> in her first- ever broadcast even if the guy was giving her the cold shoulder. Meredith has actually talked about that job before because she was almost fired from it. Her boss didn't think she could hack it in news.

>> And I cornered him in his office-- I think I freaked him out-- I said, " I don't care what you think. I'm gonna make it. I'm gonna succeed despite what you say ." And he stood there for a minute, he said, " You know what? I'm gonna give you another shot ."

>> And of course, she proved that boss wrong. Next fall, Vieira even gets her own daytime talk show. For TIME, I'm Lauren Zima.
