[ SOUND ] Hi, I'm Joe Klein, Time Magazine's political columnist. And I am smack dab in the middle of my road trip. Today, day 12 was a day for partisans. Barack Obama, if he doesn't win, the middle class in this country is finished. In the morning, I met with union workers at a Ford assembly plant in Cleveland. The union folks were visited by a democratic congresswoman, Betty [ INAUDIBLE ]. You all are, are helping to lead us forward. Who comes out of a labor union background. She was a union lawyer. She's running against a very rich guy in her district. [ SOUND ] And she obviously needs support of the union worker.

Manufacturing is not just a part of our past but a key part of our success for the future. And as far as I could tell, the union folks had really gotten the message from the republican primaries [ SOUND ] that their survival as a union was in danger. Because of the direction that the Republican party is moving. They don't realize that everything we've gotten is through collective bargaining. Nothing was given to us. The company would like nothing but to slash our wages, destroy our retirements, kill our health care. They were very, very vehement. About re- electing Obama, cuz he saved their jobs.

I believe that the bailout for the Dodge and GM and Chrysler helped Ford out. Because I think a lot of people turned around, and took that as confidence at Ford Motor Company. And they, in turn, turned around, and stopped buying Chryslers and GMs, and started buying Ford products. [ UNKNOWN ] So I think, in general, yeah. I think it was a shot in our. In our direction. Then this evening, we're in Columbus, Ohio, and I just visited the Romney headquarters, in Ohio and I spoke with a group of young volunteers. There's just four [ CROSSTALK ] questions so it will only take a minute. [ SOUND ] Is there a form?

And I asked them, [ SOUND ] why were they doing why they were doing what they were doing, and they had pretty good reason. I want someone who's going to give me a better chance at getting a job, when I do graduate. [ SOUND ] They said that half of the graduates at Ohio State University, where many of them attended, we're going out to the workforce and couldn't find jobs and they blame the incumbent. I go to a school that $ 55, 000 a year and for people that aren't going to have jobs that have all of the student debt wrapped up, it's insane. They thought that Mitt Romney with his business background could do a better job of creating jobs.

I asked him how he was going to do that, and and the answer was kinda ironnic. The first thing that cam up was. That he would repeal Obamacare when in fact he had enacted Obamacare in Massachusetts. You know, I think that, you know, regardless of, of the market power or not, you know, when, when you're forcing a small business, be it 25, [ SOUND ] be it 50 people, to purchase healthcare for their employees, it's going to make it harder on them. And, and what, right now in this economy, I don't think we need that. When you deal with parasitism in this country, now you don't see much cross over.

This is true both democrats and republicans. And one of the things I've been getting on this road trip is that most people aren't fearless parasitism in this country. But they lean a certain way. And the leaners want to figure out ways to make deals with the people on the other side. That's where the public is right now, but that's not where the politicians are.
