## Transcript

I'm Peter Dutton, Australian Minister for Immigration and Border Protection. I've recorded this message to provide some important information. You will know by now, that plans are well under way, for the first group of refugees to travel and settle in Cambodia. Cambodian settlement presents a great opportunity for refugees to move forward, and begin the next phase of their lives. In a country that is free from persecution. Cambodia provides a wealth of opportunity for new settlers. It is a fast paced and vibrant country, with a stable economy and varied employment opportunities. It is a diverse nation, with a blend of many nationalities, cultures and religions.

The government of Cambodia has made it clear to Australia that it wants this arrangement to succeed. It sees great value in refugee settlement and welcomes the experience and energy you can offer it to its nation. Australia is equally committed to this program. We're providing strong support to the government of Cambodia and to you personally to ensure you are well supported in Cambodia. I want to thank those of you who have shown the courage to stand up and be included in the first flight to Cambodia. Despite the divisive actions of a few who are intent on damaging the arrangement and ruining the chances of others for a new life in a new country.

My staff in Arun have arrangements in place so that you can agree to take up the settlement offer without fear. I would encourage you very strongly to talk to them about this. Please do not let the behavior of these agitators ruin this opportunity for you. Settlement support will also be provided to assist you to settle into Cambodia and integrate into the Cambodian community. You will be able to establish yourself and your family in a safe and stable environment on a permanent basis. This package will assist refugees to establish new lives in Cambodia and is available to those who decide to travel as part of the first group to Cambodia.

There is no guarantee that this level of support will be offered to people who wait and do not commit to this first group. Please take advantage of the Cambodia settlement hotline on 5586049 Call and speak to my staff and find out more about settlement in Cambodia. I want to make it very clear to all refugees in Niru, that you will not under any circumstances, be settling in Australia. This is not an option that the Australian government will ever present to you. Cambodia provides you with a chance to start afresh. A chance to begin a new life. This is your only long term settlement option. The government of Nauru has recently agreed to extend your stay in Nauru, for up to ten years.

So those who though they could wait it out, for five years, and then come to Australia, are wrong. There are refugee advocates in Australia who are advising you not to take up this package. They are not right. Please do not listen to their messages. The vast majority of the Australian public support the strong stance taken by Prime Minister Abbott and myself. That is that we have stopped the boats. Since December of last year, only one successful people smuggling venture has arrived into Australia. We have the same determination to make sure that we can assist you to move to Cambodia and to ensure that you will never settle in Australia.

Australia will never be a settlement destination For you or for your family. You choose to come to Australia to start a new life fleeing from persecution. An opportunity for a new life is now before you. While it is not Australia, Cambodia offers you safety, security and opportunity.
