But despite it all, she refuses to be a victim. Instead, she goes from tent to tent revealing to women that she was raped. -[ Foreign Language ]. >> Often, she finds women like this one who had a similar experience. -[ Foreign Language ]. >> This woman tells Ti Bebe she was raped by four men after she went to retrieve water. Ti Bebe says she will take her to a hospital to get medical attention and test her for HIV, a serious worry in a country where more than 2 % of the population is HIV positive. -[ Foreign Language ]. -[ Foreign Language ]. >> This tent city is an example of the living conditions for more than a million people displaced by the earthquake. There is limited light and people are living amongst strangers in tight quarters. Police rarely patrol the area. And when the sun goes down, women in particular are vulnerable. >> But women are not the only ones vulnerable. It's also a terrible tragedy for children like 5- year- old Giovannie Milforte. She spoke to us with her grandmother by her side. Her grandmother says Giovannie was raped days after the earthquake on her way home from picking up a can of rice for her mother then a stranger started to follow her. -[ Foreign Language ]. -[ Foreign Language ]. >> Giovannie lives with her grandmother, Helia Lajeunesse, in a tent about 4 feet wide. After the rape, her grandmother got her tested for HIV. Giovannie was negative. Although her grandmother was relieved, she says she was crushed. Not only is Giovannie so young, she is the third generation to be raped. -[ Foreign Language ]. >> After she was raped some years ago, Helia was tempted to take her own life, but she says she found strength through a group of women, a grassroots organization called KOFAVIV. -[ Foreign Language ]. >> It is run by volunteer rape victims. Before the earthquake, they had an office providing medical and psychological care for sexually abused women. But now, with both their office and home collapsed, they yearn for their won space. -[ Foreign Language ]. >> It's difficult to calculate how many women have been raped since the catastrophe, but the women of KOFAVIV say the number is growing. As they make their rounds in these cramped tent cities, they will continue to remind women that they are not alone.
