## Transcript

Here's your travel and leisure news round- up. News coming out of World Cup 2014 host Brazil continues to cause concern. Questions of whether the country's crime rate would mar the games only drew more speculation May 12th, when officials in Sao Paolo cautioned tourists not to resist if targeted by robbers. Preparations also haven't been easy. Half of the 12 stadiums, like this site in Manaus deep in the Amazonian jungle were built specifically for the 2014 World Cup. The opening game is set for June 12th in San Paulo. But many question whether that stadium will be ready in time. With heavy construction continuing less than a month from the start of the games.

One of the most beloved national parks in the U. S. is under attack. Someone sadly is poaching the giant redwoods in California. Cutting into them with chainsaws, hacking into them for the burled sections of the wood, the outgrowths that are similar to large barnacles. For a quick profit, thieves cut away the burls prized on the black market for their wood grain patterns and used in furniture. The burls are flame and insect resistant, so a Redwood National Park spokeswoman told CNN cutting them off can kill the massive trees. President Obama hopes the climate change warning in the third national climate change assessment released May 6th will bring attention to how climate change is impacting every region in the U.

S ., as well as key landmarks like airports. The President warned climate change could flood 12 of the countries 47 largest airports during storm surges. Think Logan Airport in Boston Harbor or Oakland International Airport which juts into San Francisco Bay. The White House report noted LaGuardia, JFK and Newark airports all flooded during Hurricane Sandy in 2012, and it warns sea levels are expected to rise one to four feet this century. And finally AARP's revamped website has a whole section for traveling seniors. The biggest addition to the site is a trip finder application that makes suggestions on destinations based on criteria you enter.

U. S. Bureau of Labor statistics estimates showed those 50 and older spend almost $ 120 billion a year on travel. Thanks for watching I'm Lauren Zima.
