## Transcript

This year could be quite the boom for fireworks sales across the US. According to the American Pyrotechnics Association, or the APA, sales are already off to a good start. And if things keep going strong through the Fourth of July, consumer fireworks revenue could shoot past $ 675 dollars for the 2014 season, up $ 13 million from last year. But whether or not gorgeous displays like this will be lighting up the sky in your town this Fourth of July is largely dependent on the weather. Yes, the weather. In southern states like Texas, favorable rain conditions have made sure a ban on fireworks won't happen this year, and people are definitely ready to shoot them off.

We're excited with all the rain that we've been getting. There's no burn bans, no firework bans. It's gonna be a safe season. We'll sell a lot of fireworks. Several fireworks vendors in South Carolina told the Charlotte Observer they're hoping for big sales, too, thanks to this year's three- day holiday weekend, but unlike Texas, too much rain could dampen South Carolina fireworks. Both South and North Carolina are under threat as tropical storm Arthur makes its way towards land. And as we all know, huge storms and fireworks don't really mix. Arthur is expected to hit Florida as well, but because most fireworks are illegal there, the storm won't affect fireworks revenue.

Well, legal revenue anyway. The majority of Southwest Utah and the adjacent counties in Nevada and Arizona, though, are dealing with the exact opposite weather problem this fireworks season. According to the St. George News, a widespread ban on fireworks has been placed across the area due to extremely dry weather and the fire hazards it brings with it. No matter what the weather brings this Independence Day, the APA says to double check fireworks laws in your state before you shoot off any dazzling displays. Thanks for watching. I'm Jamal Andrews.
