But what happened to Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 and how long until it'll be found is still a mystery. So far, no one has heard the underwater pinger attached to the black boxes that should be good for up to 30 days. [ SOUND ] No emergency locator beacon signals and no radar track. Tuesday Interpol released pictures of two Iranians they believe boarded the flight with stolen passports but officials said terrorism is unlikely. Here is a look at other mysterious plane disappearances over the last century. The Bermuda Triangle, of course, inspires plenty of folklore in movies and urban legend. But it really is where five American bombers like these vanished shortly after World War II among other plane disappearances. Air France flight 447 is the most recent mystery disappearance as an Airbus A330 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean attempting to fly from Rio De Janeiro to Paris in 2009. It took five days for rescuers to locate the wreckage and 74 of the 228 passengers and crew who died on board were never found. Investigators eventually determined ice crystals unexpectedly caused the auto pilot to disconnect. She is perhaps the most famous missing person of all time. The story of a brave woman of the air enters a shroud of mystery. July 2nd, 1937, Amelia Earhart, the first female pilot to fly across the Atlantic, radios in before she disappeared over the Pacific. Earhart was never found and she was officially declared dead in 1939. In 1947, British South American Airlines plane Stardust disappeared in the Argentinian Andes Mountains. The last Morse Code message Stardust transmitted STENDEC, a code never explained and even spawning theories UFOs took down the plane. Records of the plane was found on a glacier in the late 90s with the planes wheels intact, a sign some investigators say shows it crashed into the mountain instead of trying to land. [ FOREIGN ] Perhaps the most disturbing story of survival, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571. Another crash in the Andes Mountains in 1972. Of the 45 passengers and crew, 12 people died in the initial crash. 16 people were found alive more than two months later but they had resorted to cannibalism of the dead to survive.
