## Transcript

For months, the future of a Sriracha factory in Irwindale, California has been unclear, due to residents of the small city complaining the spicy smell meant for the hot sauce bottle was polluting the air. We had to have the guests go inside cuz they were all choking, hacking. It was right in the throat. But Wednesday, the Irwindale city council unanimously dismissed the lawsuit and public nuisance declaration against the popular hot sauce and its manufacturer, Huy Fong Foods. This change of heart from the council comes after a long drawn out battle between the Sriracha factory and the council who just six weeks ago declared the factory a public nuisance.

City council members and other city officials toured the facility Tuesday, the day before the vote. One city council member told the local newspaper, the discussions we had afterwards were candid. I think Sriracha creator, David Tran, understood where we were coming from with the residents and having to be advocates for our residents, and I was pleased that he saw that. The Pasadena Star News also says Tran installed stronger filters so the smell doesn't seep out of the factory and into the air, though residents won't know if that's true until the fall, when the factory grinds the red peppers it uses for the hot sauce.

Many believe the dramatic change of heart from Irwindale officials has the most to do with potentially losing the Sriracha headquarters and the jobs that come with it. In April, Tran told The Los Angeles Times he was considering moving the factory and that the city council acted like a local king. Well you have a friend in us. I mean, Texas is here for you. And not even a month later, a group of Texas lawmakers made their way to Irwindale to tour the facility and speak with Tran. And though Tran says he wouldn't mind opening a second facility outside of California, he has decided he will keep his 600, 000 square foot headquarters in Irwindale.

In 2012, David Tran and his company sold 20 million bottles with the famous green cap and revenue was grown by 20 % in the last year. Thanks for watching, I'm Jamal Andrews.
