## Transcript

Amazon is getting pretty serious about its Prime Air drone delivery program. The e- commerce giant has petitioned the Federal Aviation Administration for permission to expand its research on drone delivery systems. Currently the FAA limits such R & D to a selection of test ranges in six different states. Amazon wants to get its drones out in the open air in Seattle, Washington. Saying it would speed along the government's own goal of safely integrating unmanned aircraft into the country's air space. Amazon's drones first floated onto the scene last year, right ahead of the holiday shopping season.

In its app, Amazon promised an ideallic future, in which one presses a button on their tablet, in within half an hour, whatever they ordered literally drops out of the sky. But the FAA's regulations throttle down Amazon's airborne ambitions. The agency says the idea of drones delivering packages for a fee isn't gonna fly. At least for the moment. That's a shame for Amazon. The company says a good 86 % of the goods it delivers on a daily basis, are small enough to be carried by its quadcopters. All the same, industry watchers called last year's debut a great PR move. It cemented CEO Jeff Bezos's image as the biggest thinker in tech.

A guy who won't let little things like illegal, implausible, and kind of silly, stop him from considering better ways to deliver your toothpaste. At the time, Amazon put a five year ETA on its drone program. Since then, it says it's made its drones faster and safer, and is committed to making Prime Air available to customers worldwide as soon as we are permitted to do so. Thanks for watching, I'm Megan Judy.
