## Transcript

Should you eat canned tuna? Three out of five of our experts say yes. But aren't pulling out their can openers anytime soon. First, some tuna praise. A typical five ounce can has 56 % of your daily protein requirement and it's loaded with heart protective Omega- 3. Especially the kind backed in water, not oil found one study by Asim Maqbool. Mercury is the biggest concern in fish like tuna. Pollution releases mercury into the air. And as it accumulates in the ocean, fish absorb it and their mercury stores build up. When you eat certain fish like tuna, mercury can build up in your bloodstream over time.

M two. Light tuna has about half the mercury as albacore, and the FDA says that two meals of light tuna a week are safe. But toxin researcher Philippe Grandjean disagrees. Canned tuna contributes more than one- third of the mercury exposure of the average American. Can, he says. More of us should choose canned salmon instead, since it has less mercury and more Omega 3s, says Michael Gochfeld. But Leonardo Trasande says we need to kick the can entirely. Cans are lined with the endocrine disruptor, BPA. Still, the benefits of eating canned seafood are bigger than the risks. Says David Katz. There's your green light to go fish.
