## Transcript

Starbucks just announced a new drink for its holiday lineup, the first holiday edition in five years. The chestnut praline latte is now a thing competing with the pumpkin spice latte. But this is not a move Starbucks makes lightly. The company poured two years of R & D [ INAUDIBLE ] into this drink. It ran trials in a couple stores last year, but this year, the Chestnut Praline Latte gets a full North American roll out. Starbucks's Amy Dillinger, who thought up the new concoction, said she started up with what people knew, chestnuts specifically. One thing that I think helps a new beverage is when it's in that sweet spot of sort of being old and classic, but also new with a little bit of an edge.

Edge to it. That edge would be the bits of praline on the top, mock praline anyway. The drink doesn't contain any actual nut products. Even with the confectionary it's not as sweet as the pumpkin spice latte according to those who tried it, and it looks to be a bit easier on the holiday waistline. A grande is 330 calories and 39 grams. Of sugar. That's a bit lighter than the Pumpkin Spice, 380 calories and 49 grams of sugar. But even with that going for it, Chestnut Praline has its work cut out for it if it wants to challenge Pumpkin Spice's cult- like dominance. The fall latte has cleared more than 200 million drinks sold since its introduction in 2003.

Starbucks says the new latte will be served hot in its stores starting Wednesday. You could also get it iced or as a frappuccino if for some reason you aren't cold enough yet.
